One of the principles of canon law is that we MUST NOT turn "shoulds" into "musts." If something is not strictly prohibited as a matter of law, it is not prohibited, even if it is a departure from the ideal.

Pascal hated the Jesuits because we tend to be probabilists:

"Probabilism is the moral system which holds that, when there is question solely of the lawfulness or unlawfulness of an action, it is permissible to follow a solidly probable opinion in favour of liberty even though the opposing view is more probable."

People with sensitive consciences and an eager desire to serve Jesus should learn how to be strict with themselves and how to go easy on others.
